No. 10 Miami vs. No. 2 Ohio State

Miami Hurricanes rode a dominant defensive first half to a 24–14 upset of defending national champion Ohio State Buckeyes in the College Football Playoff quarterfinal at the Cotton Bowl on Wednesday night in Arlington, Texas.

Miami’s defense set the tone early, holding Ohio State scoreless in the first half while forcing mistakes and controlling the line of scrimmage. The Hurricanes limited the Buckeyes to just 1-for-6 on third down and minus-3 rushing yards over the opening two quarters.

The defining moment came when Keionte Scott jumped a screen pass from Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin and sprinted 72 yards untouched for a touchdown. The interception return gave Miami a 14–0 lead and sent the Hurricanes’ sideline into a frenzy.

Miami struck quickly before Scott’s score as quarterback Carson Beck hit Mark Fletcher Jr. out of the backfield for a 9-yard touchdown pass. Beck finished 19 of 26 for 138 yards, while Fletcher ran 19 times for 90 yards and earned the game’s offensive MVP honors.

Despite controlling the game, Miami left points on the field in the first half. The Hurricanes fumbled twice, including a turnover in the red zone, which kept Ohio State within striking distance at halftime.

Ohio State, which entered the game as a 9½-point favorite, struggled to find rhythm offensively. Sayin threw for 287 yards but was intercepted twice and sacked five times. Jeremiah Smith led the Buckeyes with seven catches for 157 yards and a fourth-quarter touchdown.

Miami added a 49-yard field goal from Carter Davis in the third quarter before ChaMar Brown sealed the win with a 5-yard touchdown run in the final minute. The 24 points were the most Ohio State allowed all season.
